At League of Innovators, we are guided by the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, which establishes the individual and collective rights of Indigenous peoples and protects them from discriminatory policies and practices. We are also guided by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s final report, and in response to their Calls to Action:
- We have created our Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion playbook with best practices for a safe, inclusive workplace, and we are building knowledge and awareness by offering learning/unlearning and capacity-building opportunities for the LOI team and community (TRC Calls to Action 92iii and 62i).
- We have developed and are continuously evolving culturally appropriate programming for the LOI community, specifically for those ages 15-30 (TRC Calls to Action 5, 62i and 66).
- We regularly seek out organizations to partner with that are Indigenous-led or hold good relations and standings with Indigenous groups (TRC Calls to Action 27).
We are aware that this is just the beginning. We have work to do, and we are committed to that work.
